Autoimmune Disease Treatments

ND Life Spa Offers Holistic Treatments for Many Autoimmune Diseases

When someone develops autoimmunity, it is because the immune system has become “confused.” Normally the job of your immune system is to know when a foreign invader (like a virus or other pathogen) is present and it is supposed to attack the foreign invader and kill it. But in the case of autoimmunity, the immune system does not recognize the difference between your own body and something it is supposed to kill, so it attacks itself.

The goal at ND Life Spa is to decrease inflammation in the body, balance the immune system, and manage symptoms through a prescribed health plan with recommendations around diet, exercise, sleep, and more. You will receive support from a health coach to help you implement every step of the plan.

Common Autoimmune Diseases:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA):
  • RA is a chronic inflammatory condition that primarily affects the joints. The immune system attacks the synovium, the lining of the membranes that surround the joints, leading to joint pain, swelling, and deformity.
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE):
  • Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organs, including the skin, joints, kidneys, and heart. Common symptoms include joint pain, rashes, and fatigue.
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS):
  • MS is a neurological autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, called myelin. This can result in a wide range of neurological symptoms, such as muscle weakness and coordination problems.
  • Type 1 Diabetes:
  • In Type 1 diabetes, the immune system targets and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This leads to a lack of insulin and elevated blood sugar levels.
  • Celiac Disease:
  • Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition triggered by the consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The immune system targets and damages the small intestine, leading to malabsorption of nutrients.
  • Hashimoto's Thyroiditis:
  • This autoimmune disease affects the thyroid gland, leading to inflammation and an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). Symptoms can include fatigue, weight gain, and cold sensitivity.
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD):
  • IBD includes conditions like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, where the immune system attacks the gastrointestinal tract, causing inflammation, abdominal pain, and digestive problems.
  • Psoriasis:
  • Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by the rapid buildup of skin cells, leading to the development of thick, red, scaly patches. It is considered an autoimmune disorder with a strong genetic component.
